COXSWAINation was founded in 2004 by Yaz Farooq and Roger Waterman. The mission of this company is to provide coxswains with information and tools that will directly impact and improve their performance. If you are a recreational, high school, collegiate, or masters cox, COXSWAINation is committed to helping you become a first-rate coxswain, and a valued contributor to your team.

About Yaz:
Yasmin "Yaz" Farooq has been involved in coxing and coaching for over 20 years. As the coxswain for the United States National Team Women's Eight from 1989 to 1996, she competed in the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games. She was captain of the Olympic Women’s Rowing Team at the Atlanta Olympics. Yaz’s crews have won numerous international medals, including a gold medal at the 1995 World Championships, and silver medals at the 1990, 1993, and 1994 World Championships. The 1995 World Championships gold medal was the first ever won by a U.S. women’s eight.

Yaz has had the privilege of learning from some of the top coaches in the United States and the world, including Hartmut Buschbacher, Tom Terhaar, Kris Korzeniowski, Jan Harville, Bob Ernst and Holly Metcalf. Several of her Olympic teammates have gone on to successful collegiate coaching careers, including Amy Fuller (UCLA), Shelagh Donohoe (University of Rhode Island) and Anne Kakela (University of Pennsylvania). All continue to positively impact her coaching today.

She is available for consulting and for clinics. Yaz is a regular presenter at the annual Joy of Sculling Coaches Conference and Vespoli Coxswain Clinics. She also presents the annual coxswains clinic, “How to Cox the Perfect Head Race” for steering the Head of the Charles® Regatta in Cambridge, MA. She has presented at the USRowing Convention multiple times.

Yaz currently serves as head coach of the women's rowing team at Stanford University. She has been the on-air rowing analyst for NBC’s telecasts of the XXVII Olympiad in Sydney and the XXVIII Olympiad in Athens. Yaz stays apprised of rowing at the highest levels by attending and reporting on world class events.

Yaz started coxing at the University of Wisconsin in 1984, where she was recruited for her "big voice" and tiny stature (she is 5'4@ on a good day and 105 lbs.). She was voted captain and MVP her senior year. Yaz is the third coxswain from Wisconsin to make an Olympic team.
